How to Buy from Xianyu (Goofish) Internationally

Xianyu (闲鱼), also known internationally as Goofish, is a major Chinese marketplace for new and second-hand goods. It is particularly useful for finding rare collectables, discontinued products, electronics, fashion, hobby items and products that may be difficult to source elsewhere.

For international buyers, purchasing from Xianyu can be more complicated than shopping from a conventional online store. Listings and seller communication are usually in Chinese, payment methods may not be accessible to every buyer, and many sellers primarily ship within China.

This guide explains how to shop on Xianyu, what to check before purchasing and how to arrange international shipping.

What Is Xianyu (闲鱼)?

Xianyu is a Chinese marketplace operated by Alibaba where individuals and businesses can list new and second-hand products.

Unlike a traditional online store, many listings are posted by individual sellers. Product condition, availability, payment requirements, and shipping arrangements can therefore vary considerably.

International buyers commonly use Xianyu to find:

• Rare and discontinued products

• Anime figures and collectables

• Electronics and replacement parts

• Vintage and second-hand items

• Fashion and accessories

• Vinyl records and hobby items

• Limited-edition merchandise

You can browse listings through the Xianyu app or the Goofish website.

Can You Buy from Xianyu Outside China?

Yes, although purchasing directly from overseas can be more difficult.

Some international buyers may not have access to the required payment methods, while many sellers expect orders to be delivered to an address within China. Certain listings may also require buyers to contact the seller before purchasing, particularly for collectables, preorders, customised products, or listings with multiple options.

If you cannot purchase directly, Com&Buy’s Buy For Me service can purchase eligible items on your behalf and receive them at our China warehouse. Once received, you can arrange international shipping to your destination.

How to Buy from Xianyu Internationally

Step 1: Find the Item

Search using the Xianyu app or Goofish website. Using Chinese keywords can help you find more relevant listings.

Once you find the item you want, copy the listing URL.

Step 2: Read the Listing Carefully

Xianyu listings do not always work like standard e-commerce listings.

The displayed price may be a deposit, placeholder price, balance payment or the price for only part of a set. Some listings may not be intended for immediate purchase at all.

For second-hand, expensive or collectable items, review the description and photographs carefully before ordering.

Step 3: Ask the Seller if Necessary

If important information is unclear, you may want to confirm:

• Whether the item is still available

• Actual condition

• Known defects or damage

• What is included

• Whether the displayed price is the full price

• Domestic shipping charges

• Expected shipping date

• Measurements or dimensions

• Whether additional photos are available

If you need help communicating with the seller before purchasing, you can submit an Ask Seller request through Com&Buy.

Step 4: Submit a Buy For Me Order

If you cannot purchase the item directly, submit the Xianyu listing through Buy For Me.

Provide the listing URL, product details and any relevant purchasing instructions. Once the order is successfully purchased, the seller will ship the parcel domestically to the assigned China warehouse.

Step 5: Wait for the Parcel to Arrive

After the seller ships the order, the parcel will be delivered to the warehouse.

Where available, optional parcel checks or photos may be requested if you need additional information before arranging international shipment.

Photos and basic physical checks should not be treated as professional authentication.

Step 6: Consolidate and Ship Internationally

Once your parcels have arrived, you can arrange international shipping to your destination.

Eligible purchases from different Xianyu sellers can also be consolidated into a shipment rather than shipped internationally one by one.

Available shipping methods depend on the destination, packed dimensions, chargeable weight and type of goods.

Xianyu Terms International Buyers Should Know

Understanding common Xianyu terminology can help you avoid purchasing the wrong item or ordering a listing that is not actually available for purchase.

Note: Com&Buy does not support listings that require in-person self-collection or face-to-face transactions.

Common Mistakes When Buying from Xianyu

Assuming the Item Is Still Available

Older listings may remain visible after an item has been reserved or sold. If availability is unclear, ask the seller 还在吗？ (“Is this still available?”) before ordering.

Mistaking a Deposit for the Full Price

Look for terms such as 定金 (deposit) and 尾款 (balance payment). The displayed amount may not represent the complete purchase price.

Buying Without Checking the Condition

For used products, review the description and photographs carefully. Check for scratches, missing accessories, repairs, modifications or other defects that matter to you.

Assuming Every Listing Can Be Purchased Immediately

Terms such as 勿拍, 需要联系, 仅展览 or 已预留 may indicate that the listing should not be purchased directly.

Ignoring Measurements

For size-sensitive products, check the listed measurements or ask the seller for them before purchasing.

Checking Sellers and High-Value Items

For expensive, rare or collectable products, review as much information as Xianyu makes available about the seller and listing.

Useful information may include:

• Seller transaction history and ratings

• Account information shown by Xianyu

• Whether the listing photos appear to show the actual item

• Description of condition and defects

• Seller responsiveness

• Additional photos or information provided upon request

No individual indicator can guarantee that a seller or product is genuine.

If authenticity is particularly important, check whether the specific listing offers an appropriate inspection or authentication service rather than relying solely on listing photos, seller descriptions or warehouse photos.

What Is Xianyu 验货宝?

Some eligible Xianyu listings may support 验货宝, an in-platform inspection or authentication service.

Availability depends on the product category and individual listing. Where offered, the item may be sent through the applicable inspection process before completing delivery to the buyer.

验货宝 is not available for every listing, so check whether it is offered on the specific product you intend to purchase.

Can You Consolidate Multiple Xianyu Orders?

Yes. Eligible purchases from different Xianyu sellers can be received separately at the warehouse and later consolidated for international shipment.

For example, if you purchase items from three different sellers, you can wait for the parcels to arrive and arrange them together instead of immediately shipping each parcel overseas.

Whether consolidation reduces the final shipping cost depends on factors such as packed weight, dimensions, destination and available shipping method.

What Can You Buy on Xianyu?

Xianyu has a very broad selection, but not every product can be shipped internationally.

Items containing batteries, liquids, magnets or other restricted components may require specific shipping methods or documentation. Certain products may also be prohibited by the carrier, export regulations or your destination country's import requirements.

Before purchasing an unusual or restricted item, check whether it can be exported from China and imported into your destination.

Xianyu can be particularly useful for collectors looking for products that are no longer available through regular retail channels. Com&Buy has assisted customers with purchases including rare electronics, vinyl records, vintage items and anime collectables sourced through Chinese marketplaces.

For rare or high-value products, confirm any important details before purchasing.
